Members of Club Mango can take advantage of a flexible loyalty program via the restaurant’s iPhone and Android apps, as well as by using Red Mango’s Club Mango card, which can double as a prepaid gift card for those who are truly addicted to frozen yogurt.
Whether customers are card carrying members of Club Mango or they opt for the smartphone app, the rewards are the same. Loyal yogurt enthusiasts will enjoy a cool 10 points for every dollar they spend at Red Mango. Customers who save 500 mango points will receive a $5 gift card. Ox & Pen offers a unique twist on loyalty programs that should make Chicago residents (and independent businesses) cheer. Ox & Pen allows local businesses to participate in a shared loyalty network while customers who are part of the Ox & Pen program can earn rewards at all of the participating businesses by using the Ox & Pen iPhone and Android app. We know from our consumer research that 73% of consumers find the idea of a ‘coalition loyalty program’ like this to be appealing.
As customers spend money at independent restaurants, shops, and businesses in the Chicago area, they begin to earn points. Members can also earn points by “checking in” at local businesses, and then sharing their “check ins” via Facebook. Presumably, this feature allows businesses to gain some free advertising while Ox & Pen members get points just for being at a local small business. Once customers earn enough points by visiting participating businesses, these customers can use the Ox & Pen smartphone app to redeem these points within the Ox & Pen network.
At this point the details become a little confusing. Customers can earn different amounts of points at different businesses. For example, according to the Ox & Pen website, members who frequent Downsize Fitness Chicago will earn $1 for every dollar they spend, 5 points for checking in, and 10 points for social sharing. Across town at Geja’s Cafe (“Chicago’s most romantic restaurant”), customers can earn 2 points for every $1 spent, 5 points for checking in, and 20 points for social sharing. The rewards also differ based on the business, but all points are redeemable at all locations. This means that customers who earn points at one restaurant can redeem them at a bar across town, so long as both businesses are members of the Ox & Pen network.

The boutique burger peddlers at The Counter have built a loyalty program to ensure that their customers come back for more of their custom made burgers. The Counter’s rewards program, The List, gives customers a variety of ways to earn points.
Customers earn 10 Dining Points for every dollar they spend at The Counter. Once customers earn 600 points (after 60 dollars), they earn 5 dollars in Dining Rewards. However, spending money on gourmet burgers isn’t the only way that customers can earn Dining Points. Customers get 200 points just for registering for The List loyalty program or for ordering their rewards card. Customers can also earn points by convincing their friends to join the List; customers will receive 300 Referral Points just for referring a friend to the program. 1200 Referral Points will snag another 10 dollars in Dining Rewards for members.
The perks of being on The List aren’t limited to the Dining Rewards. Customers receive a free order of fries just for signing up for the program. Members also receive a Birthday Shake, and The Counter ensures that members of their rewards program will also receive “Surprise Rewards throughout the year.” This last reward is certainly mysterious, but perhaps enough to keep customers coming back to The Counter for one more slider. As part of the Handshake Club, customers receive one dollar for every point spent at any Charlie Brown’s Steakhouse. Once members order enough filets and t-bones to earn 300 points, they will receive two $10 vouchers. Members will also receive a special $10 voucher on their birthday. Monday’s provide an especially nice perk for members— triple points on all purchases, which should help the points add up quickly. All of these features, along with exclusive members only benefits and offers, make the Handshake Club an excellent value for Charlie Brown’s customers. Phillips Seafood is aiming to keep customers in the Mid-Atlantic region coming back for more of their signature seafood with the Friends of Phillips loyalty program. Diners in Atlantic City, Baltimore, Ocean City, Philadelphia, and Washington DC can earn rewards and special offers by signing up for the frequent diners card, with the perks becoming more attractive as customers spend more at Phillips.
The Friends of Phillips rewards program lets customers earn 1 point for every dollar that they spend at any participating restaurant, excluding alcohol only purchases. Once customers accrue 100 points, they earn a $10 reward that can be used towards their next meal at Phillips. Customers will also receive special offers for their birthday and anniversary, as well as special email offers, wine specials, and events which offer customers double points for their purchases.
Phillips also offers big spenders an extra incentive to join the Friends of Phillips. Members who earn 400 points will become a VIP member of the Phillips crew, which makes them eligible for additional rewards. VIP members can be treated to “priority seating, complimentary passes to the National Aquarium, Zoo and the Science Center in Baltimore, and discounts on party platters, seafood shipping and souvenirs.”

According the My Outback Rewards website, customers will receive rewards after every visit to Outback Steakhouse. The program is unclear, however, as to how many points customers will receive during their visit. In order to document their points, customers must input a 14 digit code (found at the bottom of their receipt) into a form located at www.myoutbackrewards.com.
Members who earn enough points will be eligible for certain rewards, which can be found at the rewards gallery on the Outback website. Customers can earn a $10 gift certificate for 4000 points, a free appetizer for 2500 points, and a free dessert for 2500 points. The Tumbleweed Tex Mex Grill and Bar has rolled out their Tumblebucks loyalty program to keep their customers saddling up for more of their Southwestern cuisine. Customers receive one point for every dollar spent at Tumbleweed restaurants (excluding mall cafe locations) in order to earn Tumblebucks. 100 points earns a customer $5 in Tumblebucks, which customers can use to buy whatever is coming off the grill (alcoholic drinks, tax, and gratuity are excluded from the offer).
Members of the Tumblebucks rewards program can earn points even faster by referring their friends to the program. Members can earn 30 points for each person they refer, with 15 being the maximum number of people they can refer. Customers can also stock up on Tumblebucks by taking advantage of Tumbleweed’s catering service. Members of the Tumblebucks program earn double points for any items ordered off of the catering menu.

Rock Bottom Brewery’s Rock Rewards loyalty program looks to make rock stars out of their customers. With deals on food that become more attractive as customers spend more money at Rock Bottom, the Rock Rewards program looks likely to lure customers through the doors.
With Rock Rewards, customers can earn 1 point for every dollar that they spend at any Rock Bottom Brewery location. Customers receive a $10 discount on their next visit just for signing up for the Rock Rewards program. Once customers begin accruing points, the rewards become more valuable. After customers spend $100, they will receive a free “signature starter.” 200 points will snag customers a $10 dollar discount, and customers will receive a $15 discount once they hit 350 points. Rock Bottom Brewery promises even greater rewards for their most loyal customers. Patrons who rack up 500 points will receive $20 off of their next visit, and $15 off for every 150 points that they earn over 500.
Rock Rewards also encourages frequent visits by offering “double dollar points.” Customers who reach 30 visits annually receive 2 points for every dollar spent from 5-7 PM, Monday through Friday. Customers who reach 50 visits within a year can earn “double dollar points” from 11AM-2PM, Monday through Friday. Rock Bottom Brewery also states that members of the Rock Rewards loyalty program can receive invitations to “secret tapping parties” and dinners with the restaurants chefs and brewmasters, although there is no indication as to how many points are required for such rewards.
In order to join the Rock Rewards program, customers must visit a Rock Bottom Brewery. Once customers receive their Rock Rewards card, they must register their card on the website.
